The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) appointed Demarée Michelau to be president of the regional interstate higher education compact, serving 16 Western members, including U.S. states, territories, and freely associated states and their 80 million residents. She joins recently named Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) President Susan Heegaard as the second woman to lead one of the U.S. interstate higher education compacts.
