Comings and Goings …

The National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) selected Lori Williams, a 25-year veteran of online higher education, as its president and CEO, succeeding the group’s founding president, Marshall Hill, who will retire in August. Williams most recently served as vice president of the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), an accrediting body overseeing institutions in California, Hawaii and the Pacific.

The Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) promoted Russ Poulin to succeed Mike Abbiatti as executive director of WCET (the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies).

Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) President Mark Ojakian announced selection of four interim campus CEOs with responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day operations at four community colleges. Michelle Coach will serve as interim CEO of Asnuntuck Community College (ACC), where she is currently interim dean of academic affairs. Cheryl DeVonish will serve as  interim CEO at Norwalk Community College (NCC), where she currently is chief operating officer. Rose Ellis, former dean of administration and institutional effectiveness at both Housatonic and Gateway community colleges, will serve as interim CEO at Quinebaug Valley Community College (QVCC). Darryl Reome will serve as interim CEO at Tunxis Community College (TCC), where he currently serves as interim dean of student affairs. The transitions are the result of the retirements of NCC President David Levinson and QVCC President Carlee Drummer, and the promotion of ACC and TCC President James Lombella to serve as one of three regional presidents for the anticipated singly accredited institution.

The Community College System of New Hampshire named Gretchen Mullin-Sawicki, currently president of multiple campuses of the Community College of Allegheny County in Pennsylvania, to be the next president of NHTI, Concord’s Community College.

University System of Maryland Chancellor Bob Caret, former president of the University of Massachusetts, will step down from the Maryland post in June 2020.

Lumina Foundation President and CEO Jamie Merisotis began his term as chair of the Council on Foundations Board of Directors, succeeding Javier Soto, who has been chair since 2017.
