Interim Steady Hands in the Land of Steady Habits

The Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education named Mark Ojakian to be interim president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, succeeding Gregory W. Gray, who resigned. Currently Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s chief of staff, Ojakian will begin Sept, 28 as system leader on an interim basis. Malloy named his aide Brian Durand to replace Ojakian as chief of staff.

Housatonic Community College President Anita T. Gliniecki was named interim president of St. Vincent’s College, succeeding Martha K. Shouldis, who served as president and CEO of the Bridgeport, Conn. college for seven years.

Southern Connecticut State University English professor Ilene Crawford was named interim associate vice president for academic affairs at Southern.

Joseph Cassidy, president of Washington County Community College, agreed to divide his time between leading the Calais, Maine institution and the Bangor-based Eastern Maine Community College, while a search is underway for a permanent successor to Lawrence Barrett, who accepted the presidency of Florida Gateway College in Lake City, Fla.

The Unity College Board of Trustees appointed Melik Peter Khoury to be president-elect of the college, succeeding Stephen Mulkey, who announced his retirement from the college in June.

Anna Maria College selected Mary Lou Retelle to be the first woman to serve as president in more than 20 years and the first lay woman to lead the college since its founding in 1946. Prior to executive roles at Anna Maria, Retelle held positions at Suffolk University and Merrimack College.

Harvard Law School appointed Columbia University Law School Dean of Students Marcia Sells to be the new Harvard Law School dean of students, effective Sept. 21.

Brown University named Richard M. Locke, professor of political science and international affairs and the Howard R. Swearer Director of the Watson Institute for International Studies, to be the university’s provost, succeeding Provost Vicki Leigh Colvin, who announced she’d return to a career of teaching and research.
