Colleges and universities outpaced both the Fortune 500 and the Inc. 500 in adoption of social media in each of the past three years, according to a study by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research.
More than half of colleges and universities have blogs, compared with 22% of Fortune 500 and 42% of Inc. 500 fast-growing companies, according to the center’s study.
This increasing use of social media by educational institutions is evidence of the importance of these sites among young people and their effectiveness in recruiting and researching prospective students.
