Comings and Goings: New Leaders Step Up to Barr, Blackbaud; Menino to BU

The Barr Foundation named James E. Canales, currently president and CEO of the San Francisco-based James Irvine Foundation, to be Barr’s first president, effective May 2014.

Blackbaud Inc. named Michael P. Gianoni president and CEO, effective Jan. 13, 2014, succeeding Anthony Boor, who has served as interim president and CEO since August 2013, and will continue to serve as CFO and senior vice president, finance and administration.

Outgoing Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino will join the Boston University faculty in February to co-direct the Initiative on Cities, which will convene the best current and former leaders of cities to share with academics and scholars from around the world their practical knowledge of how urban areas drive growth.

Kristin Woolever, president of Prescott College in Arizona, was named chancellor at Penn State Brandywine. Among earlier positions, Woolever was dean and director of the campus at the University of New Hampshire-Manchester, held various posts over 17 years at Northeastern University and served as a NEBHE senior fellow.
