Tufts Names New Dean of Tisch College of Civic Life, Biden Nominates Brandeis Heller School Dean for Return Stint at US Labor Dept

Dayna Cunningham

Civil rights attorney Dayna Cunningham, the founder and executive director of the Community Innovators Lab (CoLab) at MIT, was named the Pierre and Pamela Omidyar Dean of the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life at Tufts University. She will succeed Alan Solomont, who is retiring after eight years in the role.

President Joe Biden nominated David Weil, dean of Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management, to serve as administrator of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, a position he held with the Obama administration labor department from 2014 to 2017.

The University of Vermont named inclusive excellence expert Amer F. Ahmed as its vice provost for diversity, equity and inclusion, starting July 1. Before joining Dickinson College, Ahmed served on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and as dean and director of the Intercultural Center at Swarthmore College.

Shai L. Butler left her post as vice president for student development at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y., to serve as Springfield Technical Community College’s interim vice president of advancement and external affairs, with the dual title of executive director to the STCC Foundation.

The Maine Municipal Association appointed Bangor City Manager and former Orono Town Manager Cathy Conlow to be the executive director of the group that lobbies the Maine Legislature on behalf of the state’s towns and cities, and provides various legal and other services to member towns, as well as insurance coverage.
