The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education tapped Christina Royal, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Inver Hills Community College in Minnesota, to be the first woman president of Holyoke Community College. She will succeed William Messner, who retired in August after 12 years as the Massachusetts community college’s president.
The Bristol Community College Board of Trustees chose Laura L. Douglas, currently provost of Des Moines Area Community College in Iowa, to be the next president of the community college in Southeastern Massachusetts. She’ll succeed John J. Sbrega, who will retire in August after serving the college for 17 years.
The Mount Wachusett Community College Board of Trustees recommended that the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education approve James Vander Hooven as its next president, succeeding Daniel M. Asquino, who announcemed his retirement earlier this year.
The University of Hartford Board of Regents appointed Gregory S. Woodward, president of Carthage College in Wisconsin since 2012, to be the university’s next president, effective July 1. He will succeed Walter Harrison, who retires June 30 after serving 19 years.
Former Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell joined Vermont Law School’s U.S.-Asia Partnerships for Environmental Law, working with schools and legal advocates in China. Sorrell chose not to run for a 10th full term.
Middlebury College named David J. Provost to be its new executive vice president for finance and administration. Provost was instrumental in creating Champlain College’s first comprehensive master plan.
