Katherine Newman
Katherine Newman, who served as interim chancellor of UMass Boston in 2018 and 2019, was named to the new UMass position of system chancellor of academic programs in the system president’s office, overseeing teaching and research and economic development. She is expected to begin in the new role when Marcelo Suárez-Orozco starts as chancellor of UMass Boston this summer.
UMass Boston, meanwhile, appointed professor of Africana Studies Quito Swan to lead the William Monroe Trotter Institute for the Study of African American Culture and History, succeeding Barbara Lewis, who retired as director.
