University of Maine System Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration Rebecca Wyke was named the next president of the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), succeeding James Conneely, who resigned in April after less than two years on the job. UMA has a statewide mission to serve nontraditional, adult and placebound learners.
Bentley University President Gloria Cordes Larson announced she will step down June 30, 2018, after more than a decade of service. Among her accomplishments at Bentley, the lawyer and former Massachusetts secretary of economic affairs and secretary of consumer affairs and business regulation presided over Bentley’s change from college to university, expanded collaborations by business and liberal arts faculty and launched the Center for Women and Business in 2011.
Jeff Immelt, who has led General Electric since 2001 and moved the company’s headquarters from Fairfield, Conn. to Boston amid much fanfare, is stepping down and will be succeeded by GE Healthcare CEO John Flannery.
Former Providence School Board President Keith Oliveira was named executive director of the Rhode Island League of Charter Schools. Previously, Oliveira helped found the R.I Nurses Institute Middle College Charter School, a first-of-its-kind public charter school located in Providence, R.I., was a state-appointed monitor of Hope High School during its state intervention, and helped found the The Met School in Providence.
