UMaine System Plucks New President from SUNY to Lead Augusta Campus, Mass. Community College Names Its First Provost

Michael Laliberte

The University of Maine System appointed State University of New York (SUNY) at Delhi President Michael Laliberte as the next president of the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA), effective Aug. 1. As president of SUNY at Delhi since 2016, he added 19 new degree programs to address local and state workforce needs, launched initiatives to improve student success, increased philanthropic giving and oversaw $42 million in transformative capital projects. Before joining the New York institution, he was vice chancellor for student affairs and enrollment management at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. UMA Provost Joe Szakas, has served as interim president of the Maine campus since August 2021, when Rebecca Wyke left the post to be CEO of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System.

Jennifer Mezquita

North Shore Community College announced Jennifer Mezquita, currently vice president of student affairs at Northern Essex Community College, will move 25 miles south to be the first provost of the community college based in Danvers and Lynn, Mass., effective June 6.

Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia selected choreographer and art educator Cathy Young, currently executive director and senior vice president of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, as its next president, effective July 1. As executive director of the Boston Conservatory, she led the organization through its 2017 merger with the larger Berklee College of Music.

Judi Urquhart, who has served as development director at the National Indian Education Association and director of planning and development for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, began her new role as chief development officer at Bristol Community College.

Trinity College appointed Matthew S. Hyde, currently assistant vice president for enrollment management and dean of admissions at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, as the Hartford college’s next dean of admissions and financial aid, effective July 1. Before joining Lafayette, Hyde was an associate director of admissions at Tufts University.
