Suffolk U Prez and Chair to Step Down After Turmoil; Helm Takes Interim Helm at UMass Dartmouth

Comings and Goings …

Suffolk University President Margaret McKenna and Board of Trustees Chair Drew Meyer both announced they would resign after a season of increasing turmoil at the downtown Boston college, which has had three presidents since 2010. Meyer will step down in May, McKenna by the start of the 2017-18 academic year. McKenna wrote for NEBHE’s journal of the subject of college presidencies.

Muhlenberg College President Peyton Randolph (Randy) Helm was named interim chancellor at UMass Dartmouth, while UMass looks for a permanent replacement for Divina Grossman who departed at left in December. Senior Vice Chancellor Gerry Kavanaugh served as acting chancellor during the search for an interim chancellor.

Anthropologist Laurie Occhipinti, who served most recently as an assistant dean and professor of anthropology at Clarion University in Pennyslyvania, returned to her native Massachusetts to be Mount Wachusett Community College’s new dean of liberal arts, humanities, education and communications.

Former Massachusetts Secretary of Education Matthew H. Malone resigned as interim superintendent of public schools in the Boston suburb of of Saugus, MA.
