Fitzsimmons

John Fitzsimmons, president of the Maine Community College System for almost 25 years, resigned under pressure from Gov. Paul LePage, who criticized him for being unresponsive to the governor’s higher education priorities. System trustees expressed support for Fitzsimmons shortly before he stepped down.

The Connecticut Board of Education named Dianna Wentzell to lead the agency while it searches for a replacement for outgoing Commissioner Stefan Pryor. A Russian Studies major as an undergraduate, Wentzell was a social studies teacher and an assistant superintendent for Hartford Public Schools.

Vermont State Colleges (VSC) tapped Tricia Coates to be the system’s director of external and government affairs under recently appointed  Chancellor Jeb Spaulding. Coates has been an aide to Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) since he took office as Vermont’s lone congressman in 2007.

Fairfield University named Linda Wolk-Simon, for 25 years a curator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, to be director of the Bellarmine Museum, Thomas J. Walsh Art Gallery and University curator.
