Happens Every Spring: More NE Commencement Speakers Announced

Carole Cornelison, commissioner of the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management, will deliver the commencement address at Wentworth Institute of Technology, on Sunday, May 6, at 10 a.m., on the Wentworth campus’s main quadrangle.

Author Andre Dubus III will speak at New England College’s 65th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. on the college’s Simon Green.

Author Tom De Haven will keynote the Center for Cartoon Studies 2012 commencement ceremony to be held at the Briggs Opera House in White River Junction, Vt., on Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m.

Dom Sagolla, co-creator of Twitter, will keynote Becker College’s 224th commencement ceremony on Monday, May 14, at 11 a.m., at the Hanover Theatre in downtown Worcester.

Boston Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino will deliver the commencement address to approximately 1,000 Bentley University undergraduate students on Saturday, May 19, at 10 a.m. on the university’s south campus.

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and poet and cultural critic Lewis Hyde will keynote the University of Hartford’s undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 19, and Sunday, May 20, both at 10 a.m. on the lawn in front of the Gengras Student Union. Hyde will address the graduate ceremony on Saturday. Blumenthal will address the undergraduate ceremony on Sunday.

Former U.S. ambassador Nancy Brinker, who is founder and CEO of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, and Stephen Schwarzman, CEO and co-founder of the financial services firm Blackstone, will address Quinnipiac University’s 1,400 graduating students on the academic quad of the Mount Carmel Campus on Sunday, May 20, during ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Eric Booth, who in recent years has devoted himself to furthering the El Sistema movement, will give the commencement address at New England Conservatory on Sunday, May 20, at 3 p.m., in NEC’s Jordan Hall.

Lalla Essaydi, an artist whose work combines Islamic calligraphy with representations of the female body, will deliver the commencement address to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, her alma mater, on Sunday, May 20, at 6 p.m.. in the Ruth and Carl J. Shapiro Family Courtyard at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Eric Greitens, an award-winning humanitarian, author and Navy SEAL officer, will deliver Tufts University’s commencement address on May 20, at 9 a.m. on the academic quad of Tufts’ Medford/Somerville campus.

Television journalist Robert Woodruff, who made national headlines after sustaining a traumatic brain injury while reporting on the Iraq war, will address Boston College’s 136th commencement ceremony, on Monday, May 21, at 10 a.m., in BC’s Alumni Stadium.

Paul Farmer, founding director of Partners In Health, will address College of the Holy Cross commencement ceremonies on Friday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m. on the campus.

Columnist and MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry will address Wellesley College’s 134th commencement exercises on Friday, May 25,  at 10:30 a.m., on the campus quad.

U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will keynote the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s undergraduate commencement exercises on Saturday, May 26, at 9 a.m., at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell.
