Caret Leaving UMass for Maryland; Charter School Advocate Named Mass Ed Secy

Comings and Goings …

The University of Maryland confirmed that Robert Caret will resign as president of the University of Massachusetts system to take over as the new Maryland chancellor.

Massachusetts Gov.-elect Charlie Baker named James A. Peyser, a charter school advocate and former chair of the state Board of Education, to be his secretary of education.

The 17-campus University of North Carolina system tapped Cambridge College Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Elwood L. Robinson to be the chancellor of Winston-Salem State University.

Massachusetts state Sen. Stephen Brewer (D-Barre) who chaired the Ways and Means Committee, will teach courses on state budgeting and advocacy in state government at UMass Amherst after he retires in January.

Wentworth Institute of Technology named Associate Provost Charles Hotchkiss to be its new dean of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction Management.
