Roger Williams University named former Tufts University professor and director of Boston’s Museum of Science Ioannis Miaoulis as its new president, succeeding Donald J. Farish, who died in July 2018.
UMass Dartmouth appointed Rhode Island College CFO David A. Gingerella to be its vice chancellor of administration and finance.
Bunker Hill Community College appointed Kristen P. McKenna as its dean of workforce and economic development, where she will develop non-credit to credit career pathways among other initiatives. McKenna has played similar roles at River Valley Community College in New Hampshire, Bristol Community College in Massachusetts and the Rhode Island Governor’s Workforce Board.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom named prominent education researcher Linda Darling-Hammond, a Stanford University professor emeritus, to lead California’s State Board of Education, the first African-American woman to do so. She will succeed Michael Kirst, another Stanford professor emeritus, who led the state board during much of Jerry Brown’s governorship.
