Bertolino Moves from Lyndon State to SCSU; Fairfield U May Appoint Its First Non-Jesuit Prez; Unity Going the Distance

Comings and Goings …

The Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education selected Lyndon State College President Joe Bertolino to be the 12th president of Southern Connecticut State University. A NEBHE delegate, Bertolino will succeed Mary Papazian who resigned as of July 1.

The Rev. Jeffrey von Arx, president of Fairfield University since 2004, will leave the university for an assignment with the USA Northeast Province of Jesuits. Local media suggested the university may name its first non-Jesuit president as von Arx’s successor.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s budget and policy spokesman Gian-Carl Casa announced he would leave the job of undersecretary for legislative affairs with the Office of Policy and Management to become president and CEO of the CT Community Nonprofit Alliance, which represents more than 550 community-based nonprofits.

American Student Assistance appointed former U.S. Department of Education loan official Pamela Moran to be special advisor for the nonprofit’s Consumer Advocacy Group helping students with college financing and repayment.

Unity College appointed long-time professor Amy Arnett to the new position of distance education dean of curriculum & instruction, and Michelle Caminos, a fellow at the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society at the State University of New York at Albany, to Unity’s new position of chief distance education officer.
