Westfield State University’s Board of Trustees recommended Ramon S. Torrecilha, a professor of sociology and former provost and vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Dominguez Hills, to be Westfield State’s first Latino president. He would succeed Elizabeth Preston, the university’s vice president of academic affairs, who served as interim president after Evan S. Dobelle resigned in November 2013 amid a spending scandal.

, president and CEO of the South End Community Health Center and co-founder of Codman Academy Charter Public School in Boston’s Dorchester section, became chair of the Bunker Hill Community College Board of Trustees.
Thomas E. Hassan, the former principal of Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, was named to be the next president of School Year Abroad, starting in June 2016. The high school study-abroad program has campuses in China, France, Italy and Spain. Hassan is married to New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan.
