Maine Gov. Paul LePage appointed former Republican state Sen. Debra Plowman of Hampden as “temporary deputy education commissioner” to “exercise all of the powers and perform all of the duties of the commissioner of the Department of Education.” She has been the Department of Education’s legislative liaison in recent months.
DeVry Education Group CEO Daniel Hamburger was replaced by Lisa Wardell, a longtime DeVry board member with a background in private equity. A DeVry spokesman said Hamburger’s departure had nothing to do with a recent suit filed by the Federal Trade Commission, accusing the for-profit college of misleading students about job placement.
Dewayne Matthews announced he will leave his post as vice president of strategy development of Lumina Foundation as the end of the year. He will continue as a senior fellow at Lumina after retirement.
Roger Nozaki, a senior policy advisor at the U.S. Department of Education and former Brown University associate dean of the College for Community and Global Engagement and executive director of the GE Foundation, was appointed vice president of the Barr Foundation, effective July 5.
