New England’s Largest School District Chooses New Super from Minnesota

The Boston School Committee chose former Minnesota Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius to be the next superintendent of Boston Public Schools, New England’s largest school district. She succeeds Tommy Chang who resigned last June and Interim Superintendent Laura Perille, who was criticized for having no experience working in public schools.

Bryant University President Ronald K. Machtley told the university community he plans to retire on May 2020 after 24 years at the helm. Machtley received a New England Higher Education Excellence Award from NEBHE in 2012 and, in 1990, as a member of the U.S. Congress, wrote an article on teaching in this issue of NEJHE (then called Connection).

Karen Muncaster, vice president of the Rabb School of Continuing Studies at Brandeis University, was named dean of the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College.

Gregg Mazzola, most recently vice president of enrollment management and marketing at Southern New Hampshire University, was named vice president for communications and marketing at Colby-Sawyer College.

Anna Maria College tapped Paul J. Vaccaro as its associate vice president for enrollment, community and corporate outreach. Vaccaro joins Anna Maria from senior-level enrollment positions at Dean, Regis and Newbury colleges, as well as Bentley University.

Pace University associate professor of management Imran G. Chowdhury joined Wheaton College as its inaugural professor of social entrepreneurship.

Nichols College CFO and former UMass Medical School Controller Michael Stanton was appointed vice president of finance and administration & CFO at Stevenson University in Baltimore County, Maryland.
