Comings and Goings …
University of Vermont President Tom Sullivan announced he will step down in summer 2019 after leading UVM for seven years. Before joining UVM, he served eight years as senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Minnesota. An attorney by training, Sullivan has published extensively on antitrust law, including a NEJHE piece on “NCAA’s Latest Pay-to-Play Scheme Would Sack Concept of Amateur Student Athlete, Raise Antitrust Questions.”
Vermont Gov. Phil Scott announced the appointment of Dan French, a longtime educator who was recently coordinator of the School Leadership graduate program at Saint Michael’s College, to be Vermont’s next education secretary. He will begin Aug. 13, succeeding Rebecca Holcombe, who resigned in April.
Brian Boyles was named executive director of Mass Humanities, the state agency that creates and supports cultural and civic programs throughout Massachusetts. Boyles most recently was vice president of content for the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities. He will succeed David Tebaldi, who served the Massachusetts outfit for 33 years.
