Comings and Goings …

The Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Board of Regents appointed its provost and senior vice president for academic and student affairs, Jane McBride Gates, to serve as the system’s interim president, while the board searches for a permanent replacement for outgoing President Mark Ojakian.

Rev. Brian J. Shanley, who was president of Providence College from 2005 until he stepped down earlier this year, will become president of St. John’s University in New York City, effective Feb. 1. He succeeds Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw,  the first lay president in the 144-year history of St. John’s.

Career Education Colleges and Universities named former U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire, a centrist Democrat from western Pennsylvania, as the new president and CEO of the for-profit college organization just as the sector is expected to face tough regulations from the Biden administration.
