Running on Duncan … After 16 years at the helm of regional “Dollars for Scholars” office serving New England—and since last year New York too—David Duncan has taken an extended leave of absence. Lynne Zervas has been named interim regional director for Northeast Dollars for Scholars. Zervas has served the organization for more than 20 years as both employee and volunteer.
Good advices … Two longtime NEBHE supporters landed key posts in new administrations around New England. In Connecticut, Gov. Dan Malloy tapped former Lt. Gov. Kevin Sullivan of West Hartford to head the Department of Revenue Services. Sullivan was among candidates in a mock campaign staged by NEBHE in 1999 for “Governor of New England” and authored a 2006 NEJHE article pondering NEBHE taking in New York and New Jersey as new members. In Vermont, Gov. Peter Shumlin appointed Treasurer Jeb Spaulding as his secretary of administration. Spaulding served eight terms in the Vermont Senate from 1985 to 2000, including a stint as chair of the Education Committee.
