SUMMARY:Seizing Growth Opportunities and Avoiding Operating Risks in Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:We extend our sincere thanks for everyone who participated in NEBHE and RSM’s executive lunch briefing Seizing Growth Opportunities and Avoiding Operating Risks in Higher Education\, held on Monday\, April 29\, 2019. \nSenior leaders of New England’s higher education institutions face complex decision environments that require a strategic and dynamic perspective in knowing how to innovate and invest in growth opportunities—as well as to anticipate and avoid risks and challenges. The briefing drew upon the insight of experts and thought leaders to discuss opportunities for capturing the “upside” and avoiding the “downside\,” as institutions navigate the competitive realities of New England higher education. \nThe morning session\, Competitive Realities and Opportunities in the Region\, addressed these issues: \nThe data are clear: The number of traditional-age students in New England continues to decline\, creating the need for strategic and diversified approaches to enrollment and growth. There are no silver bullets\, to be sure. But which strategies hold promise for New England colleges and universities in their efforts to compete within and beyond the region? What factors will distinguish institutions’ competitive prospects and ability to quickly seize opportunities? \nWatch Session 1 here: \n \nThe afternoon session\, Could it Happen to Us? Recognizing\, Evaluating and Addressing Key Risks Related to Data\, Privacy and Cybersecurity\, discussed the following scenario: \nFrom large to small\, colleges and universities across the U.S. have experienced data breaches and have been the targets of cybercrime. What are the best practices for how institutions should prepare and\, when a breach occurs\, respond? What lessons can we learn from experiences so far? What are the respective roles of trustees\, presidents and senior staff in evaluating\, preparing and addressing key risks? \nWatch Session 2 here: \n \n\nClick on each speaker’s name below to view and download a PDF version of their PowerPoint presentation featured at the briefing: \n\nSamantha Fisher\, Vice President\, EY-Parthenon\nLisa Larson\, President\, Eastern Maine Community College\nJack Maguire\, Founder\, Maguire Associates\nAlain Marcuse\, Strategic Cyber Security and Privacy Consultant\, RSM\nAlex Parnia\, Executive Chair\, Global Education Access\n\nClick below to download these materials from the conference: \n\nThe conference agenda\nThe attendee list\nThe list of speaker biographies\n\nWe look forward to seeing you at next year’s NEBHE-RSM lunch briefing.
